Hey lovely readers!

Want to satisfy your sweet tooth for a good cause?

Join me on Sunday, April 21, 2013, 3:00-5:30 p.m., at The Old Bowery Station, when local bakers and food bloggers (including me!) will be sharing our sweets as a way of raising funds to support scholarships and programs for at-risk students in the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP).

Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) is a national not-for-profit, headquartered in New York City, that provides scholarships, education, and career opportunities in the culinary arts.

I'm going to be making a springtime version of my famous Italian Rainbow Cookies--this kind filled with raspberry and lemon curd, and topped with white chocolate. So good! So addictive!

The $39 tickets will give you access to tasting treats and sweets from all the bloggers and bakers, including:
(And me, of course!)
Guests at the event will also get to enjoy dessert and chocolate demonstrations from Colicchio & Sons renowned pastry chef Stephen Collucci and master chocolatier Mehdi Chellaoui.

You'll also have the opportunity to win amazing door prices and to meet members of the C-CAP Junior Committee, and to learn how the non-profit organization helps underserved youth by exposing students to opportunities in the food and hospitality industries.

Register Today for "A Sweet Escape" --A 3-Day Culinary & Crafting Retreat Hosted by Always Order Dessert

Hello lovely friends!! I've got big news today.

BIG news!

I'm crazy excited to announce my latest project. It's called [trumpets blaring]:

What is A Sweet Escape? Well, it's:

One part food conference
+
One part sleepover party
One part dinner party
A BIG dash of summer camp!

And I want YOU to come!

Picture THIS:
A long weekend spent in a gorgeous Vermont country house, surrounded by picturesque green mountains and bright blue skies. Your days are spent in the company of other amazing food lovers taking part in hands-on cooking classes, DIY crafting workshops, wine & cheese tastings, and cocktail mixing demos.

You can take part in daily local excursions to meet cool local artisan food producers or do a little shopping in the cute town shops. Happy Hour starts at 5ish on the sunny patio (bring your sunglasses!), and meals are shared with new friends around a long wooden farm table decorated with candles and wildflowers.
After dinner, take a dip in the relaxing hot tub, or grab a cozy hoodie and head back outside for late-night s'mores and gabbing around a crackling bonfire.

Evenings are for curling up in front of a delicious food film (oh hello, Johnny Depp!), while snacking on chocolate cake, spiked hot cocoa, and gooey decadent truffles. Or you can opt for a relaxing candlelit massage just steps away from your bedroom door.
On the last day, enjoy a final farewell brunch with your new friends, and then take home a gift bag filled with treats and surprises to help you remember the weekend.
Tell me that doesn't sound amazing?

I love sharing with you here on the blog each day, but it's even more fun to meet you in real life. Which is why I dreamed up A Sweet Escape.

It's a 3-day, all-inclusive culinary & crafting retreat that's open to fellow food bloggers, readers, writers, home cooks--just about anyone who loves food and cooking, and wants to get away for a few days to learn, share, and enjoy.

There will be cooking demos, arts & crafts workshops, wine & cheese tastings, local excursions to meet cool food producers, incredible meals, and SO. MUCH. MORE!

Oh...and there will also be chocolate. A LOT of chocolate!

The retreat will take place at Good Commons--a gorgeous retreat house in Plymouth, Vermont--and the rates include round-trip travel via private jitney from midtown Manhattan (you can also meet us there).

I will be hosting you and preparing all the meals--as well as leading some fun cooking classes. I'm also bringing in some incredible people to share their amazing food and crafting knowledge with you, and have reached out to some of my favorite artisan food brands to donate delicious things for us to enjoy throughout the weekend.

And did I mention the hot tub, yoga classes, and in-house massage therapist?

Rates start at just $550 per person, and are all-inclusive (!!!), which means that includes travel, lodging, all meals, activities, materials, and excursions.

Already live in the area or want to stay elsewhere? We're also offering a 2-Day Pass rate of just $310.

There are only 20 spots available so you should register right away.

Like...right now!

It has been a dream of mine to host an event like this, and I'm so excited to finally be making it happen.

Join me for a Women's Entrepreneur Retreat Weekend!

Back in August I alluded to a special project that I was working on with some of the incredible women I met at the culinary retreat I attended in Vermont this summer. Well, the time has finally come to reveal it!

I'm excited to announce that I've teamed up with the amazing folks at Good Commons to co-host a Women's Entrepreneur Retreat weekend on November 10-13 at Good Commons in Vermont!

This intensive and intimate retreat weekend is geared towards women who are starting or in the beginning or planning stages of building their own businesses, and is designed to provide them with the support, tools, and network to assist them at every stage of their journey.

Have you been dreaming about starting your own business? Or have you already started and are looking for additional support and guidance? Whether your business is art, design, sales, dance, fitness, fashion, marketing, PR, coaching, retail, non-profit, law, writing, teaching, food, hospitality, or anything and everything in between, this retreat is for you!

Business & Leadership Training
  • We have partnered with the inspiring Laura Huckabee-Jennings of Transcend Leadership Coaching who is going to be leading us through a series of workshops covering everything from developing a strategic business plan, identifying your key strengths, time management, communication, and more. Leave with a clear plan and actionable steps that will help you take your business to the next level.
  • As part of my contribution to the weekend, I'll be leading a session on social media success and marketing for your business and personal brand.

Take Networking to the Next Level!
There will be nightly group discussions to encourage sharing and peer mentoring, plus a plan to keep us all connected and accountable once the weekend ends. Forget those awkward happy hours and disappointing networking events; this retreat is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to develop real bonds and share with like-minded women. Build valuable connections and friendships that will support you, and help you and your business grow for years to come!

A Holistic Approach
Because we understand that that it is impossible to build and run a successful business without taking care of yourself first, the weekend is also going to feature a strong wellness aspect.
  • I'm going to be the in-house chef for the weekend, providing three home-cooked meals each day (and dessert!) made with whole, fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. All the recipes I'm preparing throughout the weekend will be meals that can be made easily with limited amounts of time (and I'll be sending you all home with the recipes, of course!)
  • Yoga and Pilates instructor, Meg Zirm, of Yogalina, will be leading daily yoga practices and discussions that tap into our strengths and creativity. These classes will be geared towards people of ALL levels (even total beginners) so everyone will feel comfortable.
  • Meg will also be teaching everyone a series of short exercise routines that we will all be able to take home and incorporate into our busy daily lives to manage stress and stay focused and fit.
  • And finally, I will be teaching two hands-on cooking classes featuring recipes and techniques for quick, healthy (and delicious, because I only do delicious) meals that can prepared at home regardless of how limited your time is. I'll also be sharing time-saving tips and ideas throughout the weekend that will help you take control of your kitchen and mealtimes.
Relaxation
Located in the heart of the Okemo Valley in the rolling foothills of the Green Mountains, Good Commons is a picturesque and stunning retreat. Escape the mad rush of the city and enjoy the crisp fall air, changing leaves, miles of lakes, and star-filled skies.

There will be a massage therapist on site (massages are priced a la carte), a gorgeous outdoor hot tub for relaxing, nightly bonfires (perfect for enjoying s'mores made with my very own homemade graham crackers!), and plenty of time for early morning walks or afternoon excursions in the gorgeous countryside.

The trip is all-inclusive, with all meals and round-trip transportation from New York City provided via the center's private jitney included in the rate. Those traveling from other locations or providing their own transportation are eligible for a discount in price.

Sounds amazing, doesn't it? I am so incredibly honored and excited to be a part of this weekend. Good Commons is such a special place and I know that you'll fall in love with it just as much as I did.

Rates for the all-inclusive weekend start at just $550, including round-trip transportation from Midtown Manhattan. We will leave after work (at 6:15 PM) on November 10 (Thursday) and will return Sunday evening. (A boxed dinner and snacks, prepared by me, will be provided on board the jitney.)

To sign up and learn more, visit the Good Commons website or feel free to email me with any questions you may have! When you sign up, be sure to send me a note or leave me a comment to let me know you did!

P.S. Want to know more about the experience at Good Commons? Check out my post from my stay there this past summer.

Meatless Monday Cooking Class!

Nearly the weekend already! Amazing!

Just wanted to pop in and invite you all to my next NY cooking class. I'm going to be hosting a Meatless Monday cooking class in midtown Manhattan on Monday (August 8, starting at 7PM) with an entirely vegetarian menu. This is a little bit unusual for me because I am by NO means a vegetarian, but I do enjoy occasional meatless dishes (especially in the summer when the veggie bounty is so wonderful) and so I decided to take on the challenge of designing a meatless menu that would still appeal to carnivores.

Here's what I have planned:

Chipotle Mushroom Tacos--these are so good! I actually made these for Eugene recently and he asked me if it was beef or venison sausage (that latter which I brought home from my trip to Vermont). He was totally shocked when I told him that they were completely vegetarian. The secret ingredient that makes them so good? You'll have to sign up to find out... ;)

Seasonal Vegetable Ravioli in Brown Butter Sauce
--learn my trick for quick, homemade ravioli (no pasta machine required!) and an easy filling that can be made with any number of seasonal veggies. This is one recipe that can get you through the whole year and is amazing for dinner parties. Plus, brown butter...need I say more?

Roasted Tomato Quinoa--If you're not already quinoa obsessed, you're about to be. This ridiculously easy dish works as both a side or a main coarse salad. Loaded up with roasted, peak-of-the-season tomatoes and packed with protein, this is about as good as it gets.

Pan-Seared Halloumi--Two words for you here: Fried. Cheese. (Fried Cheese!)

Arugula and Mango Salad, Citrus Dressing--This sweet and spicy and tart salad is incredible. (And we're going to top it off with the aforementioned fried cheese.)

Crisp Fingerling Potatoes with "Merguez" Yogurt Dip--Forget french fries--these crisp potatoes are amazing on their own, but wait until you add the "Merquez" dip. Merquez is a type of incredible spicy Moroccan sausage, but I've veg'd it up by grabbing all those incredible spices and flavors that make Merquez so freaking good, and turning them into a dip. Genius!

Raspberry Buttermilk Cake--the quintessential summer cake made with fresh berries, local buttermilk, and a crackly sugar top. The perfect way to end a meal.

Does this all sound amazing to you? (That's a rhetorical question because I know that it does.) Come join me and the rest of the class on Monday night while we prepare these incredible dishes together and then sit down for a feast!

See you there!

As you may know, (since I've mentioned it...oh...once or twice ;) I've been teaching a series of really fun and intimate dinner-party style cooking classes here in New York.

What I feel makes these classes special is that I've designed them to be more like a relaxed dinner party, with plenty of wine, music (I make special playlists for each class!), and lots of hands-on instruction and experience. You'll actually take part in every aspect of making the meal, learning everything from basic techniques to fun tips along the way. And since the classes are small, they're a great place to make friends and meet new people; nothing like food and cooking to bring together a group of strangers!

To enter to win, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me one thing you'd love to learn to do some day. (Doesn't even have to be food related! I, for example, really want to learn how to play the ukulele.)

My Spanish Tapas Cooking Class

Last Thursday I hosted the first of my summer cooking class series. It was SO MUCH FUN! The class was such a blast, with a group of 7 students including one adorable and very precocious 10-year-old.

The theme for this class was "Seasonal Spanish Tapas," and under my instruction, the students made (and ate!) a full menu of classic Spanish tapas dishes with a Summery, seasonal twist. We made grass-fed beef meatballs with a spicy herbed-tomato sauce, chorizo and red onions cooked in dry vermouth, bacon-wrapped apricots stuffed with an almond-sage stuffing, chorizo-chocolate-saffron crostini (yes, sir!), roasted plums in spiced honey with fresh ricotta, red wine cherry compote (served with salty cream cheese), grilled pan con tomate topped with fresh tomato and just a hint of sea salt, and black pepper asparagus with homemade garlic aioli (that we whipped up completely by hand!). I also made a couple of pitchers of sangria--a white sangria with fresh nectarines and guava nectar, and a red sangria with oranges, cherry bitters, and a medley of fresh berries. I also taught our youngest student how to make herself a pitcher of virgin "sangria" so she could join in on the fun!

It really was such a fun time cooking and sharing in the gorgeous professional kitchen, with everyone pitching in to put together a wonderful meal, and I was happy to learn that the students all left with full bellies and lots of new cooking techniques and recipes.

Here are a few pictures for you to check out (there are also more on my Facebook page).
The gorgeous professional kitchen in Midtown West where the classes take place.

Each student gets his/her own work station complete with a cutting board, chef's knife, apron, towel, and recipe booklet.

I assign each student a recipe to be in charge of, though we end up working on everything together.

You are never too young (or too old!) to learn how to cook!
In this class we made aioli by hand from scratch. Here, a student takes a turn with the whisk.

Teaching how to create a smooth garlic paste on the cutting board as a base for aioli and vinaigrette.
After cooking, we sit back and relax, enjoying the meal we made.

Spring Menu Tasting at The Peninsula NYC

This past Monday, I (along with a few other NY food bloggers) attended a lovely and intimate menu tasting at Fives restaurant located in The Peninsula Hotel.  The event was meant to give us a chance to try a few of the new spring menu items, and to meet Fives' charming new Executive Chef, Chef Anuwat Nu Morakotjantachote (Chef Nu, for short).

The meal was amazing, and I was really impressed by the quality of the dishes. The menu was very seasonally inspired--filled with gorgeous, fresh Spring vegetables and grass-fed meats (and a pretty fantastic chocolate dessert!). As good as the food was, I think I was most excited about finally seeing so many gorgeous colors on my plate again--think bright green romanesco, red baby carrots, peas, asparagus, and lots of herbs.

Chef Nu himself was absolutely wonderful--he came out and described each dish in details, patiently answering any questions we asked. And the final sweet touch? We all got these adorable cupcakes to take home as a parting gift. (I ate mine for breakfast-dessert the next day!)

I posted an album containing pictures and details about each of the amazing dishes we ate; visit the Always Order Dessert Facebook page to check them out!

Food Swapping in Brooklyn

BK Swappers Food Swap
A few weeks ago, I read a really cool article in the New York Times about a food swapping event being held every so often here in New York, during which a group of canners, bakers, gardeners, food bloggers, and other talented food folks get together to exchange their homemade (or homegrown) treats, share potluck dishes, and just hang out in person for a few hours.

Awesome, right? I was instantly smitten with the idea, and signed up to attend the next event, which was held yesterday afternoon at a store/culinary studio called Brooklyn Kitchen in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn.

DSC_0607
The items I made and brought to the food swap (all in my homemade packaging!)
In anticipation of the event, I spent a few days trying to figure out what to bring. I'm not really much of a canner, so I don't have stores of pickles and jams and things in my pantry, but I do love to make stuff,  so I ended up putting together a variety of sweet and savory items that I hoped would go over well with the other swappers.

I decided to go with a kind of Latin theme. I used a bag of dried hibiscus flowers (flor de jamaica) that my friend Looney brought me from Nicaragua a while ago to make hibiscus blossom cordial and candied hibiscus blossoms in syrup, both of which can be used for cocktails and sparkling non-alcoholic beverages. I also made a couple Puerto Rican pantry staples that I thought might attract attention: achiote oil, a red-hued oil made by simmering anatto seeds in canola oil that is used to naturally color Latin dishes (it's the yellow in yellow rice),  and sofrito, a fresh blend of vegetables, herbs, and aromatics that acts as the base of pretty much all Puerto Rican dishes. I printed up sheets with recipes for black bean soup and yellow rice so that people who took home the sofrito and achiote would know what to do with it.

I also baked a batch of my signature Italian Rainbow Cookies, and I portioned out cute packages of my homemade vanilla bean pudding mix, each with a half of a vanilla bean tucked in. (I know you're curious so don't worry because ALL of these recipes are indeed forthcoming!) The swap was also meant to be a potluck brunch, so I brought some of my smoky deviled egg salad with caramelized shallots to share with the other swappers.

DSC_0631
DSC_0618
DSC_0626

I'm all about presentation and branding (and love any excuse for a craft project), so I created some simple, but elegant labels on Illustrator, and packaged the items in pretty bottles, jars, and clear treat bags. The results were adorable--so much so that I was worried I would have a difficult time letting go of the treats once I got to the event!

I was glad to have put in the extra effort as the people at the event all seemed to really love my packaging (some folks even asked if cater or have a store!). Even better, all of my items were well-received, although I have to note that the sofrito and the rainbow cookies were definitely the standouts from my bunch. The other items on offer were incredible--everything from hard cider and infused booze to all kinds of pickles, jams, and preserves. Savory items seemed to be more popular than the sweet ones, but I think everything got a little bit of love!

DSC_0630
My products on display with folks swapping and snacking in the background.

DSC_0634

The swap itself was a bit of a whirlwind--almost a little overwhelming, actually. We started out Chinese auction style by writing our names on little cards placed near each item, but come swapping time, it was really more of a free-for-all; with people just walking up to the person who had the item they wanted and negotiating a trade. There were a few times when I found myself totally confused by what was going on as food kept exchanging hands, but once it settled down, I was pleased with the results. Delighted, actually!

I came home with two heavy bags FILLED with treats (Eugene lovingly drove me to the event and then picked me up, as it would have been impossible for me to carry everything on that long train ride with my back injury).  In exchange for my items I got: chipotles in adobo sauce and salsa verde (by Gabriela from Gabriela's Kitchen), hot curry cinnamon chocolate sauce, port wine chocolate sauce from Melissa of the Spatula Queen, homemade "dumpling" pork sausage seasoned with chives, glazed lemon cake, strawberry chipotle jam, homemade coconut extract by Emily of Nomnivorous, a carafe of freshly squeezed orange juice, chocolate babka by Richela, salted cinnamon caramels by the Singing Chef, mango chutney, homemade marshmallows, raw vegan sun-dried tomato and basil spread, pickled beets from Communal Table, upside-down pineapple cake, salt and pepper cookies, honey and chili nut brittle by Raganella, and a tub of schmaltz. (The latter of which has made Eugene very pleased indeed; he keeps talking about getting some "good bread" to spread it on. Nothing like rendered chicken fat to make a Jewish man happy!)

DSC_0643
The selection of treats I brought home from the swap.

I haven't been able to try everything yet, but I was really surprised to find that the raw vegan spread is so far in the running for my favorite item. I've been spreading it on crackers and snacking on it all day, which just goes to show why events like this are a great way to not only meet and share with people, but to try new things that you otherwise wouldn't even think consider.

I had a great time at the swap, and look forward to the next event. If you live in NY and are interested in attending the next swap, sign up for the BK Swappers Facebook page to find out more details. (And I hear that there are swaps taking place all over the country, so check Facebook for local swaps in your neck of the woods!)

Visit the Always Order Dessert Facebook page to check out more of my photos from the swap!

The Edible Garden at New York Botanical Garden

Last Saturday, I hosted a group of 25 food bloggers and food writers at the New York Botanical Garden for an outing to celebrate the kick-off of NYBG's Edible Garden Exhibit.

Though a New Yorker for most of my life (I was even *born* in the Bronx!) I'd never before made the really rather quick and easy trip up to the Botanical Garden. In fact, for the longest time, I didn't even know it existed!

Exists, it does. And it is beautiful! Just a quick trip on Metro North (about 20 minutes from Grand Central; even less from Harlem) is a botanical paradise that feels like a mini vacation. 250 acres of gorgeous gardens, winding paths, and woodland area are available for exploring by foot or on a continuous guided tram tour. A number of events rotate throughout the year--from science talks to chef demos to celebrity book signings.

We were there for the Edible Garden, an incredible event that celebrates locally grown, seasonal food through demonstrations from food and gardening experts every day, plus four "Festival Weekends." If you're into food (and I'm sure you are because otherwise you wouldn't be here), I definitely recommend a visit when you're in the NY area (if possible, I recommend a visit on August 21st, when none other than yours truly will be the featured guest chef doing cooking demos on the Kitchen Stage!).

The other bloggers and I sat through an excellent talk by Blue Hill's Dan Barber, who shared his views that all food needs to have a story. He demonstrated this by telling us the origins of the seeds of the polenta he serves in his restaurants; polenta which is harvested and ground just a couple hours before dinner so as to preserve its most integral quality.

Dan also talked quite a bit about olive oil (after a few questions from the audience) and surprised many of us olive oil fanatics by insisting that olive oil should never be cooked with. He also noted that the only olive oil worth buying is that sold in tiny dark bottles. Otherwise, he prefers the neutral flavor of grapeseed oil for cooking.

The talk was followed by a hosted lunch at the Garden Cafe where we provided with a gorgeous reserved table set for kings (it was so pretty that as our group walked towards it, I asked the Marketing Director who was hosting us what that table was for; I thought it was for a wedding and was surprised when she said it was for us!).

After lunch, the bloggers split up, taking the next few hours to explore the gardens at their own leisurely pace. Eugene and I caught a few minutes of a Sara Moulton demo, and then headed over to the tasting terrace where we sampled local NY wines, a delicious fresh ginger soda, and a few other tasty treats.

We also came across a young man (with an absolutely beautiful voice and accent--even Eugene remarked on it!) demonstrating something called "Woolly Pockets." These cool hanging bags (in blue in the photo), made out of recycled bottles and fibers, can be hung anywhere and planted with herbs and other small plants.

They were pretty fantastic (we saw some that had gorgeous baby strawberries growing out if it) and seem like a great option for urban gardeners and others with limited ground space.

Just past the tasting terrace, we came across the beautiful kitchen gardens; edible gardens designed by a number of celebrity chefs like Dan Barber, Mario Batalli, and Martha Stewart. It was hot and we were getting a bit sleepy, so we hopped on a passing tram and settled in for a relaxing tram tour of the grounds.

The tram took us all the way up to the rose garden, where the roses were all just starting to come in. It smelled absolutely incredible in there and Eugene and I kept running around stopping to smell each rose. I loved how each one had a distinct (albeit similar) aroma. I just wanted to bottle it all up!

I'm excited to go back to the Garden on August 21st. I will be hosting two live cooking demos at 1PM and 3PM on the same stage Dan Barber and Sara Moulton appeared as part of the Edible Garden exhibit.

You're all invited to come check it out, and bring your friends and children as it's a really wonderful place for the whole family. Please let me know if you plan to go as I'd love to meet you in person!

Winners, Links, and Wrap-Ups

I'd like to give a big thank you to all of you who came out on Wednesday night for the bake-off event. We tasted some incredible treats (I've linked some of the recipes below for you as these things were A-mazing! Katy and Jen: I couldn't find links to yours, please share if you can!). The winners of the night were Jen from Local Appetite NY with her delicious (and beautiful!) seasonal strawberry cheesecakes, and Esther Chai, whose chocolate chip cookie won the audience vote.

I'm also still daydreaming about Katy's rich mocha brownies, that delicious salty-sweet butterscotch sauce on Emily's Not Yo Mama's Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the amazing filling inside Anna's perfect little salted cashew turtle cupcakes (Anna, if you're reading, can I just have a bucket of that filling? Cause that would be awesome...)

I also had a blast yesterday morning at TECHmunch food blogger conference here in NY. I moderated a panel called "Building Community and Gaining Momentum" featuring the bloggers behind This is Why You're Fat, Urlesque, and Fancy Fast Food. We talked about the tools that help us build and maintain a community beyond the site.

There was also a wacky Microsoft party, and (highlight!) a delicious dinner party at a new friend's beautiful home. She made a seasonal vegetarian spread that was as wonderful as it was beautiful.

I haven't done weekend links in a while, but as this week was a particularly busy one, it seems like the perfect time to bring it back. I love sharing the things that have caught my eye or inspired me. And I'll be back next week with more recipes and ideas.

(Needless to say, I'm sleepy and will be spending the weekend lazy-ing about. What do you have planned?)

Join Me for Dessert!

A few weeks ago I hinted that I was busily working on some events for the summer. I'm excited because I can *finally* announce one of them. (And, I really really really hope that you'll be able to join us!)

On Wednesday, June 9th, I, along with the folks at The LAMP, am co-hosting a charity bake-off to benefit their amazing media literacy programs for kids, teens, and parents in underserved communities. I've actually taught a few web literacy workshops for The LAMP, and have witnessed first-hand how important the work they're doing is. As bloggers and otherwise Internet and media savvy people, it's sometimes hard to realize just how little many people know and understand about the multi-media messages that are thrown at them everyday. With their workshops and programs, they're working to give kids, teens, and their parents, the tools and skills they need to navigate the messages and think critically for themselves. That is definitely a cause that I--and this blog of mine--can get behind!

The event is going to be a delicious one. We've assembled a group of uber-talented food bloggers who will be squaring off against each other with their decadent baked treats. A panel of noted foodie judges, including Brooke Parkhurst--NY Daily News food columnist and writer (along with her husband, Chopped champ James Briscione) of the forthcoming cookbook Just Married and Cooking, and Giulia Melucci--author of saucy "foodoir" I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti.

The Double Windsor Bar in Brooklyn is hosting us for the evening. And yes, I said Brooklyn. Those of you who know me personally, know that I live all the way up in Harlem and *rarely* step foot below the Upper West Side (let alone outside of Manhattan!) so you know this is definitely going to be good.

Tickets are just 20 bucks in advance (buy your tickets here) or $25 at the door. It's limited entry so I definitely recommend getting your ticket soon! The amount is tax deductible, and your admission grants you automatic entry into the raffles, access to exclusive drink specials, and (of course!) a tasting plate of all the delicious treats.

I'm really excited about this, and hope that those of you in New York (or nearby) can make it. Feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I'll see you on June 9th!

About The LAMP:
The LAMP (Learning About Multimedia Project) is a non-profit organization bringing free, hands-on media literacy workshops to youth, parents, families and educators throughout New York City. Based in Brooklyn, The LAMP was founded in 2007 by Katherine Fry, Ph.D., and community organizer D.C. Vito with the vision that one day, media literacy will be seen as the critical requirement to understanding the world and our place in it. As part of this effort, The LAMP works in communities to build healthy relationships with all forms of media, with a focus on communities which are considered at-risk or underserved. To date, more than 700 students have benefited from workshops with The LAMP on a range of topics, such as cyber wellness, news literacy, advertising literacy and much more.
